1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo with a 454 big block engine

ABOUT THE MONTE

The 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was my first car that I purchased in 1979 and am going to be doing restoration to it bringing back to the street. My lovely wife wants me to transform this into a convertible. Wish me luck. Visit here to see how the project is going. Check back as I will be having some items for sell. Competed in drag racing in the Pro category. Best track time of 11.782 in the quarter mile. Raced at Raceway Park, Indianapolis, National Trail Raceway in Kirkersville, Ohio, and Kilkare raceway in Xenia, Ohio.

I have pictures of my 454 big block Chevy below. It is bored .030 over making it a 468 cubic inch or 7.7 liters for you who know liters instead. The block was aligned honed for the crank. The crank is the original stock crank. The crank was balanced along with balancing the rods and pistons. The pistons are Wiseco pistons with 13.5 compression. The rods are Eagle H-beam made of 4340 steel. The cylinder heads are stock oval port that were gasket matched, ported, and polished by my friend Steve Gantz. The valves were enlarged to 2.25” on the intake and 1.88” on the exhaust. Used Manley stainless steel, necked down stems to increase air flow. The heads were topped off with Moroso roller rockers. Weiand Team G manifold tops off the motor along with a 900 CFM Holley double bumper. The manifold was gasket matched by my friend Steve as well. The engine makes about 600Hp and 590-foot pounds of torque helping lift the tires about six inches off the ground.

I am looking at getting a block for the street that will be either 540 cubic inches (8.85 liters) or 620 cubic inches (10.2 liters).

Send me info if you converted your car to a convertible
